To efficiently do analysis and design, one has to know certain techniques and notations (UML, BPMN, XML Schema and others). However, spending valuable training time teaching details of a notation is a misunderstanding. 80% of the tasks can be done with 20% of notation. Therefore during our trainings we do not discuss the meaning of hundreds of graphical symbols and their attributes. Instead, we analyse real problems from everyday analytical and design work, and we examine different ways to solve them. Of course we do not forget about notation (especially on basic courses), but we treat it just as a means, not an end in itself.
